Forget About That "Secret" (and Invisible too, now) Corny Corner-Ribbon's Drivel! The Real Secret is HERE Indeed - not over there!

only in arkansas...

Local prosecutors were so anxious to nail one accused individual (prosecutors are always eager to nail the accused - whether the accused are wrongly accused or not, it is of no real concern to them... or so it appears!) that they actually wound up subpoenaeing... a pooch! Well, in their defense (...) their eagerness to convict stems from the fact that this is a MURDER CASE... still...

Bentonville, Ark. is the theater of this latest judicial farce... I mean, "saga".

It appears that the defendant had written to a lot of people - including a lovely letter to his shihtzu pet pooch, via his cell phone! (Ahh - puppy love... and also the hazrds of modern technology - NOT man's best friend! *LOL*). The normally infaillible prosecutors realized their mistake only on Tuesday when the defendant’s brother brought in the "witness" (and the dog's caretaker) to answer the subpoena and a deputy did his duty, not letting them into the courthouse because no dogs are allowed in there. (No fairytale endings allowed either - you know, in the order of "from the doghouse to the courthouse to the penthouse"... darn!). Prosecutor Robin Green had little choice but to apologize to the brother for any "inconvenience" incurred, and actually commented something along the lines of "the dog was friendly enough and probably would have been a very (cuddly?)cooperative witness." (For the record, your Honor, the prosecutor DID NOT use the word "cuddly" at any time while issuing her, er, "statement" there...) *LOL* So... cooperative she said... Certainly more cooperative than certain judges can be... with prosecution or defense... but I am digressing again... *LOL*

The end does justify the means, of course... The accused, Albert Smith, is purported to have shot to death his ex-wife’s boyfriend. Attaboy Albert - you showed her you still had feelings for her in splendid fashion there... :
In other astonishing headlines from the animal (even if urban) kingdom:
• Claws out over animal rights in West Hollywood• Open season on cats in Wisconsin?• Dog to go under Georgia governor's knife

Comments:
Ah yes - from Albert Walker to Albert Smith... mere coincidence? Probably... but still... what were the odds that the last two (alleged)killers I talk about on me auld blog are both named ALBERT...? I'm going to start to think that latter-day Alberts have a mean streak about them or something... sheesh...

A far cry from the Alberts of old... Einstein... that shampoo guy... Ayler... Camus... Dr. Albert Schweitzer, the humanitarian, theologian, missionary, organist, and medical doctor... Fat Albert... Albert Bierstadt, the painter... Prince Albert (I guess...) and... er... Saint Albert I suppose?!?

St. Albertus Magnus
Known as Albert the Great; scientist, philosopher, and theologian, born c. 1206; died at Cologne, 15 November 1280. He is called "the Great", and "Doctor Universalis" (Universal Doctor), in recognition of his extraordinary genius and extensive knowledge, for he was proficient in every branch of learning cultivated in his day, and surpassed all his contemporaries, except perhaps Roger Bacon (1214-94), in the knowledge of nature. Ulrich Engelbert, a contemporary, calls him the wonder and the miracle of his age: "Vir in omni scientia adeo divinus, ut nostri temporis stupor et miraculum congrue vocari possit" (De summo bono, tr. III, iv).

Blessings!

Robert wrote in his comment -

"Of all the Alberts you mentioned, Camus is my favorite. He and Sartre were such an odd couple - contemporaries and yet so very different, as if each belonged to a different era! Yes - I am a philosopher..."

And so am I, Bob!
I can call you Bob... can't I?
Blessings! *LOL*
