Who will carry forth MY projects... hmm?

Olivia Harrison likes to quip that were she to write a book about her 27 years with "the quiet Beatle," she'd call it "Never a Dull Moment." That must be why Harrison's widow is carrying on his projects now... maybe?
It must be nice for this George's ghost (for, a mere 48 hours ago, I was blasting two other Georges - Lucas & Romero... And of course there's always Dubya to blast too... And Georges are plentiful; most of them worthy of this sort of thing, too! That's for those of you who are not paying attention... there's always a few like that in every class... But I digress! *lol*) - it must be nice, thus, to have someone care enough for you and your body of work to see it through once you are gone (and quite unable -as disinterested for disembodied, y'know- to possibly complete it...). I've often actually gone as far as making SEVERAL drafts of a potential Last Will that would be CONDITIONAL - upon the meeting of certain requirements such as seeking the publication of a manuscript left behind collecting dust instead of residuals... *lol* Even, perhaps, if the inheritor (MOST PREFERABLY "inheritress" - heiress sounds best, always...) was deemed literary-saavy, under the condition of COMPLETING an unfinished manuscript -in the same spirit of the first few chapters and following notes I would leave behind, dramatically, as I exit mundi... Hey, it's not morbid! Just trying to cover all potential scenarios / cover all the bases here, that's all... *LOL*

Ah... yes - George was lucky to have his Olivia on stand-by there... ready to take over the moment he went to meet "My Sweet Lord"... Aleluia! ;)

Nothing too alarming, folks - just standard gloomy thoughts for a cloudy Saturday rife with existential angst...? I'm not going anywhere - not just yet!

Puns of the Week-end - to a weak end...?

Actually - these are pretty good! (Unlike last week-end!)
"Don't believe what you hear about fleas and ticks -- it's all lice."
"A jockey wanted to be the city mare but things kept stallion until he got nagged."
Cute anyway... no? ;)

I find that it is not the circumstances in which we are placed, but the spirit in which we face them, that constitutes our comfort.

Verse of the Day

“ May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. ”- Romans 15:5,6
Today's passage is from the New International Version.

broadway is hard up for ideas...

In lieu of actual "freakishness" this friday, how about some tiny silly little firecracker that will peter out as well in no time...? *lol*
For if Adam Sandler is about to be as inspirational for Broadway as Rogers and Hammerstein... we are surely near the end of the world, my friends...!

Drew of course went on to greener pastures (or is it... redder?) in her recent film with another SNL guy - Jimmy Fallon - a virtual clone of Sandler (with just as limited a register too... *lol*) who suddenly found his passion for the Red Sox... hmm... And while Drew was seen celebrating with Jimmy and the Red Sox as the latter won the World Series last fall, Adam Sandler felt the need to improvise himself quarterback material... To me though, he will always be THE WATERBOY. *lol*

He plays a mean golf round though - but it was really the Bruins jersey he wore that was empowering him all along! It's my theory and I am sticking to it...!

As for the Broadway rumor...
well - it seems NOT to be a rumor at all but a done deal... so... my conclusion is that it is no rumor at all either... Broadway really is dead.

star wars day... eh?

Here's your thunder for this thursday alright - fueled by the Force, no less! Always sad though to see a franchise peter out of existence... *lol* And that is the feeling one gets seeing Star Wars reach its alleged "conclusion" in Revenge of the Sith... (what cause has the sickening Sith got to exact revenge for anyway...? Their precious Darth Maul, who got hacked in half in the Phantom Menace...? He had it coming! And too easy if you ask me... Anyway - am I the only one who sees two possible meanings for the "hidden significance" of the Sith name...? Aside from the simple shifting of just two letters -in a four-letter word; a tad too easy, but still- and a rather debasing -not to say... defecating- result... But I digress...).
Star Wars... that twisted modern-day mythology de merde... *LOL* What is so special about George Lucas playing the same tune and re-serving the same dish over and over again since 1977...?!? Different sauces each time - maybe! (More like different condiments with each "try"...!). This is, indeed, stagnation! Lucas is so rich - can't he try something else?!? Just once? Hmm... And, ironically, another one-pony-trick named George is "returning" this summer - George A. Romero, with Land of the Dead! Romero started earlier than Lucas - with even a lesser budget too (heck, his original Night of the Living Dead was shot in black & white!) - but he is, essentially, rehashing the same thing he has ever done... just like Lucas is! Both Georges are fine examples of the old adage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" - just repackage it, tinker with it a bit, and re-serve it. Both got bigger and bigger budgets each time, as the surefire, can't miss money opportunity lured big studios to invest into their productions, if only as distributors... And the rest is cinematic history as they say! (Although Lucas has the tendency to revisit history and tamper with it - retouching his older three movies in the Star Wars series how many times again...? But that is another story of course...).

Ultimately, I only really want to lament HUMAN FOLLY here... How much was it - 100 million dollars invested -squandered- in the making of this vanity project for Georgie Boy here... An exercise in digital mastering of the art of cinematography... great, sure... however, all throughout the planet (no, not Tatooine) there are people DYING OF HUNGER... feeding them is less important than making all those movies at 100 million a pop... Yeah, right...

The Force Beckons - they say

Verse of the Day

“But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness.”- James 3:17,18

Quote of the Day

To live in the presence of great truths and eternal laws, to be led by permanent ideals - that is what keeps a man patient when the world ignores him, and calm and unspoiled when the world praises him.

Pammy love split - BANG
(BANG) - Pamela Anderson has reportedly split from Stephen Dorff.
The former 'Baywatch' beauty, 37, and Stephen, 31 decided to end their five-month relationship because they could not see a long-term future.
A source close to the blonde babe revealed to Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "When push came to shove it didn't seem to be going anywhere.
"It just fizzled out naturally. They are still on friendly terms so a reconciliation isn't out of the question.
"But Pam's priorities are always her two sons, Brandon and Dylan, and she's got her hands full looking after them."
Pamela once admitted she was so overwhelmed with Dorff when they first met - she couldn't remember if she had romanced with him before.
She confessed: "I remember going up to him, thinking 'God, you're really hot. Have we ever?' And he goes 'No!'
"I'd met him a long time ago and it could've happened, but it didn't happen."
Earlier this week, Pamela admitted she would use a sperm donor to get pregnant again if she couldn't find the right man.

Brad Britt - BANG
(BANG) - Brad Pitt is moving to Britain - to live closer to alleged lover Angelina Jolie.
The Hollywood heavyweight's move to London - where he is reportedly buying a US$10million home - also coincides with his plans to make and star in a movie about the capital's infamous Millennium Dome diamond heist in 2000.
Brad has asked property agents to find him a luxury house in West London, close to the Buckinghamshire country mansion Angelina shares with her son, Maddox.
Meanwhile, Brad is laying down plans for his film based on the robbers who attempted to steal 12 De Beers diamonds - worth a staggering US$550 million - from the London landmark.
A source revealed: "Brad is fascinated by the audacity of this heist. He really loves stylish gangster movies as proved by his starring roles in 'Ocean's Twelve' and Snatch'.
"Doing this movie will also mean he gets to spend more time with Angelina."

iams what iams...

For nearly 10 months in 2002 and early 2003, a PETA investigator went undercover at an Iams contract testing laboratory and discovered a dark and sordid secret beneath the wholesome image of the dog- and cat-food manufacturer: dogs gone crazy from intense confinement to barren steel cages and cement cells, dogs left piled on a filthy paint-chipped floor after having chunks of muscle hacked from their thighs; dogs surgically debarked; horribly sick dogs and cats languishing in their cages, neglected and left to suffer with no veterinary care.
Iams lied to PETA with promises to improve the conditions for animals in its contract laboratories, even assuring us that enrichment programs were already in place, but our undercover investigator saw otherwise. She fought for six months to have a single cheap, rubber toy placed in each cold, lonely kennel. This is Iams’ idea of enrichment.
Our video footage shows Iams representatives touring the facility and witnessing dogs’ endless circling in barren cells, sweltering in the summer heat. Iams knew the truth yet did nothing to protect the animals.
The dogs and cats in Iams’ tests are no different from our dogs and cats at home when it comes to deserving companionship, play, a stimulating environment, and the right not to be tormented in painful experiments.
Luckily, caring consumers know that advances in nutrition don’t have to come at the expense of animals in labs. Help PETA force Iams to end these painful and unnecessary tests, as many compassionate companies have already done.

Truly disappointing to hear of this - just when you think you know which corporate entity is which (and which one is worthy of respect as well!) - well - this happens (or comes to the public's attention - finally!)
Sad; really
BOYCOTT IAMS CRUELTY!

mondays at the movies

It is not just Star Wars ending and Batman beginning (what - again?!? lol) this summer at theaters near you, folks... A plethora of gems on celluloid will be invading movie multiplexes across the land - and a peculiar thing quickly becomes apparent, at a mere glance... the spiritual flavour of the titles offered, or a great many of them at any rate...
The Holy Girl
Rize
Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room
Saint Ralph
Ladies in Lavender
Jiminy Glick in La La Wood
Land of the Dead

Hmm - maybe the 21st Century will yet be spiritual after all - eh

Statistics Sundays 4 - another encore

Today's Big Cat Facts:
A cat of many names, the Puma is also known as the Cougar, Panther, Catamount or Mountain Lion.

The 36 species of the wild cat family are spread across most of the globe, excluding the continents of Antarctica and Australia and some island groups.

Though hunting and loss of habitat are severely decreasing their numbers, an estimated 3,000 to 7,000 snow leopards are left in the wild.

Ocelots spend morning hours camouflaged up in trees, where it is suspected that the white spots visible behind ocelots ears help cubs keep track of their parents and adults keep track of their mates.

In darkness, cats' eyes are able to function in approximately one-sixth of the light needed for human vision.

The five "Great Cats" within the classification "panthera" are: the lion, the tiger, the jaguar, the leopard, and the snow leopard.

Commercial poaching, a declining prey base due to over-hunting, and loss of habitat are the principal threats to the tiger.
