the prisoners
Off the top of my head, I can think of a number of real jerks, low-life creeps that could be deemed "expendable" - truly! If any one of these types were "taken away" and never to be seen again, their immediate environment would actually IMPROVE with the "loss"!
However, these are not the ones who get elected for kidnapping and prolonged captivity. Not at all. No one wants to kidnap and much less KEEP a jerk! Instead, they will take away the good, the best, the angelic ones among us!
People like Ingrid Betancourt, Clara Rojas and Marc Beltra.
Or Céline Henry, who went to work in a foreign country, genuinely seeking to help develop Nepalese social conditions - and, once her contract expired, she vanished too and was never seen again. A blog has been set up about her mysterious disappearance too: see it here.
Those are the ideal targets - and the ones who will pay for the sins of their political systems.
Those who are willing to make a difference in this wretched world of ours.
Those who venture far away from their mass-consuming, mass-wasting countries to go where the surplus of food and goods is never sent - just for safe-keeping of the system!
The idealistic ones who will go to third world countries in order to HELP.
An idealist may not be a realist but it is the closest thing to an angel that we have here, "stranded on Earth" as I blogged recently enough...
Ingrid and Clara have been missing for over 4 years now!
Marc vanished in 2003; and Céline is missing since last September.
None of them may ever be seen again.
I have always wondered who exactly would notice if I disappeared too - aside from the obvious "usual suspects" that is... of course.
The jerks I alluded to earlier will be sticking around for a looooooong time to come though, I am sure...

Luminous Friday Night Videos ~ Guest Playlist
Not that TLB Prime has been rented already (part of that odd blog explosion program...) but this time out we are having a guest playlist compiled by a guest musical expert... My only requirement was that there would be, primarily, sad songs on it - for that would reflect the period that I am going through right now.

inbox indiscretions # 6...
Just a note... from my inbox. The sender is the one thanking the originator of this "formidable forwardable", a certain Elizabeth (not Taylor, I hope?)

Customer: I'm trying to install LOVE but need some help. I'm not very technical—can you help?
Service Rep: Sure. The first step is to open your HEART. Have you located your HEART?
Customer: Yes I have, but there are several programs running right now. Is it okay to install while they are running?
Service Rep: What programs are running?
Customer: Let me see....I have PASTHURT.EXE, LOWESTEEM.EXE, GRUDGE.EXE, and RESENTMENT.COM running right now.
Service Rep: No problem. LOVE will automatically erase PASTHURT.EXE from your current operating system. It may remain in your permanent memory, but it will no longer disrupt other programs. LOVE will eventually overwrite LOWESTEEM.EXE with a module of its own called HIGHESTEEM.EXE. However, you have to completely turn off GRUDGE.EXE and RESENTMENT.COM. Those programs prevent LOVE from being properly installed. Can you turn those off?
Customer: I don't know how to turn them off. Can you tell me how?
Service Rep: My pleasure. Go to your Start menu and invoke FORGIVENESS.EXE. Do this as many times as necessary until GRUDGE.EXE and RESENTMENT.COM have been completely erased.
Customer: Okay, I'm done. LOVE has started installing itself automatically. Is that normal?
Service Rep: Yes it is. You should receive a message that says it will reinstall for the life of your HEART. Do you see that message?
Customer: Yes I do. Is it completely installed?
Service Rep: Yes, but remember that you have only the base program. You need to begin connecting to other HEARTS in order to get the upgrades.
Customer: Oops... I have an error message already. What should I do?
Service Rep: What does the message say?
Customer: It says "ERROR 412 - PROGRAM NOT RUN ON INTERNAL COMPONENTS". What does that mean?
Service Rep: Don't worry, that's a common problem. It means that the LOVE program is set up to run on external HEARTS but has not yet been run on your HEART. It is one of those complicated programming things, but in non-technical terms it means you have to "LOVE" your own machine before it can "LOVE” others.
Customer: So what should I do?
Service Rep: Can you find the directory called "SELF-ACCEPTANCE"?
Customer: Yes, I have it.
Service Rep: Excellent, you are getting good at this.
Customer: Thank you.
Service Rep: You're welcome. Click on the following files and then copy them to the "MYHEART" directory: FORGIVESELF.DOC, SELFESTEEM.TXT, REALIZEWORTH.TXT, and GOODNESS.DOC. The system will overwrite any conflicting files and begin patching any faulty programming. Also, you need to delete SELFCRITIC.EXE from all directories, and then empty your recycle bin afterwards to make sure it is completely gone and never comes back.
Customer: Got it. Hey! My HEART is filling up with really neat files. SMILE.MPG is playing on my monitor right now and it shows that WARMTH.COM, PEACE.EXE, and CONTENTMENT.COM are copying themselves all over my HEART!
Service Rep: Then LOVE is installed and running. You should be able to handle it from here. One more thing before I go...

Service Rep: LOVE is freeware. Be sure to give it and its various modules to everybody you meet. They will in turn share it with other people and they will return some really neat modules back to you.

spring has sprung ~ happy new year afghanistan & iran - and happy end of the world day too!
Happy New Year to Afghanistan & Iran. (Well, have as happy a new year as possible, under the circumstances.) Ominously, in Iran, it's also End of the World Day. ~ so it is reported by the kind folks from Twisted History.com...
All manners of convergence and synchronicity here - March 21st is the date when Persia changed its name to Iran, back in 1935... March 21st is also the birthday of one William Shatner, whom I despise... (born in Montreal, he was... in 1931.)
It is assessed that it was on this date too that, back in 62 C.E., after her unsuccessful revolt against the Romans who beat and raped her two daughters in public, Queen Boadicea killed herself before the wretched Romans could take her alive...
All in all, hence, Spring Day here is not such a good omen after all - is it? Quite a few bad things have come out of it...
I haven't been up to snuff lately either.
One old adage keeps ringing in my head lately - "test before you trust". Who wrote / said that one again? Not quite as important as the truth that it states...
As I go through another valley, I see who is supportive, who is to be relied on, who is there... and who is not.
