Statistics Sundays 7 - 11...

Since we are, after all, on the day of the Lord - and in light of recent events (including some I did not mention on the blog; the passing of Scotty - James Doohan... of Jim Aparo, legendary DC Comics artist who drew the likes of Aquaman, Phantom Stranger, Deadman, The Outsiders and Batman like no other... of yet another wrestler who surtaxed his body to keep up with the infernal pace of the competitive world of pro-wrestling; former WCW, ECW, WWE and NWA TNA star Chris Candido... and certainly the passing of my friend, Sisi Austin...) I feel like saying a prayer, understandably enough...  And a great one was recently forwarded to me; so I pass it on to you, my readers, here and now - after a few statistics of course...

Publishing History FACTS...

Part of the Bible was published for the first time in 1988.

The complete Bible has not been published.

Several books remain taken out of the canonical Good Book - collected in the Apocrypha.
There are excellent reasons for that, of course... (more on this - in the 3rd comment that follows this post!)

HOPE YOU LIKE THIS NOW...

Q: What is the shortest chapter in the Bible?
A: Psalm 117

Q: What is the longest chapter in the Bible?
A: Psalm 119

Q: Which chapter is in the center of the Bible?
A: Psalm 118

Fact: There are 594 chapters before Psalm 118
Fact: There are 594 chapters after Psalm 118
Add these numbers up and you get 1188.

Q: What is the center verse in the Bible?
A: Psalm 118:8

Q: Does this verse say something significant about God's perfect will for our lives?

Well, let's just say this now...

The next time someone says they would like to find God's perfect will for their lives and that they want to be in the center of His will, just send them to the center of His Word!

Psalms 118:8
"It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man."

Now isn't that odd how this worked out (or was God in the center of this editorial choice)?
Hmm?

Before sending this I said a prayer for you. Got a minute? 60 seconds for God? All you do is say a small prayer for the person who sent you this...

"Father God bless my friend in whatever it is that you know he/she may be needing this day! And may his/her life be full of your peace, prosperity and power as he/she seeks to have a closer relationship with You. Amen"

When things get tough, always remember...
Faith doesn't get you around trouble, it gets you through it!

God Bless You

And the excellent reason why those apocryphal books were removed is... what, you ask?

First of all:
the apocrypha also known as the anagignoskomena are Tobit, Judith, Wisdom of Solomon, Wisdom of Jesus ben Sira (Ben Sirach also called Ecclesiasticus), Baruch, Letter of Jeremiah (in the Vulgate this is chapter 6 of Baruch), additions to Daniel (The Prayer of Azarias, Susanna and Bel and the Dragon), additions to Esther, 1 Maccabees, 2 Maccabees, 3 Maccabees, 1 Esdras, i.e. ...

It was included in King James Version of The Bible in 1611.

But it was definitively removed in 1885...

(Although, it is making a comeback in new editions - but in a separate section, like it used to be, actually, circa 1666...!)

The initial reason Protestants protested the Apocrypha was because the Roman Catholic Church based some of their beliefs on passages from those books. In particular, the idea of praying for the dead had a Roman Catholic prooftext in 2 Maccabees 12:38–45.

Since then, these 14 books (or chapters) have acquired a category all of their own: they are referred to as being Intertestamental.

During the birth of Christianity many Jewish texts of Hellenistic origin existed within Judaism and were frequently used by Christians.

Catholic Christians incorporated several of these books into the canon of the Christian Bible, thus calling them the "apocrypha" or the "hidden books" of the Bible.

The Prayer of Manasseh and PSALMS 151-155 are also missing from The Bible.

Specifically pertaining to the New Testament portion of The Holy Bible, all the gospels and all the other books that comprise it were included because they are authenticated and recognized as eyewitness accounts...

The sole exception being LUKE - whose account is made up of interviews of the eyewitnesses...

Every other gospel, epistle and early Christian writings that have been found were *not* included because they were not known to be written by eyewitnesses of Jesus but written later on...

Contrary to what Jose Saramago penned during his time with us, there is no "gospel according to Jesus"

The book left behind by the great Portuguese writer is, of course, a work of fiction.

There is still debate about the Dead Sea Scrolls and the gospel according to JUDAS, however...

JESUS Himself never gave any validation to the books that make up the Apocrypha; nor did any of His apostles ever quote from it.

"Even Jerome, the translator of the Septuagint, rejected the Apocrypha as Scripture."

It was subsequently rejected by Luther, as he noted that they "were not considered a part of the Canon of inspired books" even though he had them in the German Bible...

The Jewish scribes never believed that the Apocryphal books of their Old Testament "were inspired".

And, finally, the Catholic Church removed them too from the Holy Bible - as early as 1684 according to some scholars...
