Sam has been gone eleven days now

And, unlike Lassie, there won't be no happy "coming home" ending here. Sam was not, of course, a pretty pup like her (him actually, but it is not important right now...) nor was he as perky as Benji... or as cutesy-wootsy as the "Eu Queiro Taco Bell" chihuahua (whatever happened to that one - no, let's not go there...). Sam was a celebrity canine for all the WRONG reasons really... And, although his heart was failing (reputedly) he did not die of "natural causes" - but was euthanized. Euthanasia is a huge debate when it comes to the elderly and terminally ill - I believe it should be also when it comes to pets. However I will not make the case for this at this time... It is time to mourn that poor little beastie - the world's most unsightly mutt, to some. Me, I see one of the littlest creatures on God's green earth - and a kinder creature too than many more sightly ones! Sam's owner said she did not think there would ever be another quite like Sam (whose sparse tuft of hair atop its knobby head was a sort of trademark - along with the crooked teeth and the hairless body!) - and certainly no Scooby Doos or Snoopys can replace a real dog - no matter how unsightly and smelly it is!

World's Ugliest Dog Dies at 14 Wed Nov 23, 2:47 PM ET

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Sam, the tiny dog whose hairless body and crooked teeth earned him a reputation as the World's Ugliest Dog, has died.

The pooch died Friday, just short of his 15th birthday, his owner said.

"I don't think there'll ever be another Sam," Susie Lockheed said, adding: "Some people would think that's a good thing."

Sam won the ugliest dog contest at the Sonoma-Marin Fair this summer for the third year in a row. The pedigreed Chinese crested had made appearances on TV in Japan, radio in New Zealand and in Britain's Daily Mirror tabloid. He also had met Donald Trump on a talk show set.

Lockheed said she initially was terrified of Sam when she agreed to take him in as a rescue dog six years ago on a 48-hour trial basis. Although she fell in love with him, his appearance repulsed her then-boyfriend and prompted the man to break up with her.

Later, however, Sam became a matchmaker by bringing together Lockheed and her current beau, who saw a picture of the two on an online dating site.

Lockheed said she had Sam euthanized after she learned Sam's heart was failing.

She said she's felt a little lost ever since, and is sleeping with Sam's favorite toy — a stuffed bear he picked up and carried home.

Miss Lockheed has been sleeping with that dirty stuffed bear, Sam found Lord Knows where...?!?

Has her boyfriend relegated her to the doghouse too?

Old Sam was a Chinese Crested.
I have never seen one so ugly in my life! They usually are so ugly they are cute. Sam though was truly ugly. He still was one of God's creatures and deseved all the love and attention he got from Miss Lockheed.

I hope that Sam will inspire other animal lovers to take in animals that might not be so cute, but still need and deserve to be loved!

God Bless You (\ô/) Luce!
