Saturday Sports on TLB
First, an anniversary to celebrate - today marks the 46th one as far as the formation of the AFL goes, which comprised 8 teams at its inception in 1959 and now... oh, right, now is in a sad state of non-existence. Ow. (The AFC is merely a division of the NFL - FYI, non-sports aficionados!).
Also on this date: in 1887, Ottawa College (ORFU) defeats Montreal Football Club (QRFU) to win the Dominion championship. (Of course - if Montreal was already renowned for its *Gentilles Alouettes* more than for its brawn, they had no chance in hades to win a thing indeed!). In 1933, the Chicago Bears' 30-game unbeaten streak ends to the Patriots - 10-0. At the opposite end of this spectrum, in 1982, the Cleveland Cavaliers lost their record 24th straight game (Drew Carey really meant Cleveland *sucks* on his theme song there - rrrrright?). Speaking of cities with losing track-records - New Orleans' Saints won their first NFL game ever on a November 5th - in 1967. The final score was close enough though; 31-24 over the Philadelphia Eagles. They haven't won all that many since - now, have they? For the fans of more, ah, *cerebral sports* out there - in 1992, Bobby Fisher beats Boris Spassky to win the Chess title in Belgrade today... *Boris The Bear* would have stood a better chance against Bobby... Way to go Bobby! You're the best! Never met a Bobby who wasn't, actually... Bobby Doerr... Bobby Orr... Bobby Kennedy... Bobby Soxer... hmm, skip that last one now!
Next up... for the person that, for some obscure reason believed me to be a Montreal Canadiens fan - take a peek at *this* pic... (a little something they sell as quality t-shirts in clothing shops that matter - a little something that I personally improved upon thanks to the wizardry of Microsoft Picture It! :)
Next up - this week-end's match-ups... luminous style! Boston Burns Pittsburgh yet again - part of the Curse of Cam Neely upon Mario The Not-So-Magnificent One (what - you thought only Babe Ruth could curse Boston - and Boston players could not curse the opposition in return - especially when said opposition plays dirty and ENDS YOUR CAREER? No way - turnabout *is* fair play!). Buffalo bounces Montreal - in the second of a home-and-home series (the Habitants are party-poopers on the road - but at home, the CH stands for choking before their hometown crowd!). Another DC battle - Dallas vs Colorado actually - ends inconclusively (yes - I am predicting a tie! Take that to your bookie!). And, on Sunday, in the NFL, two teams previously mentioned here will butt heads and helmets; the Chicago Bears and the New Orleans Saints. Expect another spectacle of mauling and martyrdom as the Bears take that one...

Wow a lot happened in Sports on today in history. Who better to share that knowledge with us than you, a historian! :D
I don't know if you intened to, but you made me laugh again! lol
*cerebral sports* hehehehe I like that.
I love that image you posted. You did a good job improving on that image!
When you said DC battle, before I read the rest I automaticly thought of DC Comics. lol Through you I have learned about the DC Comics. Was that also a twist on DC Comics as well as an amalgamation of (or would it be an acronym) of Dallas vs Colorado?
I used the word amalgamation with a friend when I was PMing them this morning. lol I don't know if it really appyed here with DC or not though.
I hope you have a productive day writing! I know if I'm going to do it too, I need to start today! I'll let you know if I do.
God Bless you (\ô/)

Oh... and the Celtics play the Bobcats!
How could I forget THAT ONE...
I doubt the Ancient Celts -whom I mentioned here recently to boot- ever thought their "descendants" would be squaring off with a group of men that jump around shooting hoops and call themselves proudly "Bobcats"...
The surprises of the course that history can take, I suppose...
*lol*

Bill Walton - one of many notable Boston Celtics players from the 80s.
The Celtics were dominating back then - but not nearly as much as they were in the 50s and 60s - when they won 10 championships (I believe 8 were IN A ROW!).

Bryan Adams was born on a Nov. 5th too.
His TRUE BEST SONGS are the LESSER KNOWN ONES actually - one titled "REMEMBER"... haunting melody and chorus line... "DON'T DROP THAT BOMB ON ME"... I like whenever he throws in references to the Seven Seas or "as deep as an ocean" in his lyrics...

BOSTON (AP) - The Boston Bruins showed that their power-play success against Pittsburgh last month wasn't a fluke.
Jiri Slegr scored two power-play goals in a 35-second span in the first period and Patrice Bergeron had a spectacular end-to-end rush for another power-play goal in the second, leading the Bruins to a 6-3 victory over the Penguins on Saturday night.
Boston is 4-0-4 in its last eight games. The Penguins had their season-best, two-game winning streak snapped.
Joe Thornton had two goals, and Nick Boynton also scored for Boston. Mark Recchi scored two goals and Lasse Pirjeta added a goal for the Penguins.
The Bruins have 11 power-play goals at home this season, eight against Pittsburgh. They had four in the second period of a 6-3 win on Oct. 22.
"Very similar," Thornton said of the two home meetings against the Penguins. "We had our chances 5-on-3 and we capitalized. We had the chances against them last time we played them. We had a good power play."
In the Bruins' three games against Pittsburgh this season, they have scored 6.3 goals per game; compared to 2.9 in the rest.
With Boston leading 4-1, Bergeron had the goal of night, and maybe Boston's best this season. After collecting a loose puck in his own end, he skated up the middle, pushed the puck between defenseman Ryan Whitney's legs, collected it near the top of the crease and slipped a shot past Caron for an unassisted score.
"I got a little lucky with the D-man, but got it back," said Bergeron, who watched the replay of his goal on the video board as the crowd roared.
"Unbelievable," Thornton said. "One against three. He really split the defense. It was a great goal."

The Penguins were 1-for 10 on the power play, with Recchi scoring late in the first period.
The Penguins started the season 0-4-5 before turning things around lately.
"We went right back to the way we were five games ago," Recchi said. "We didn't compete. We weren't ready to play right from the start. They were and it showed."
The Bruins jumped ahead 1-0 on Boynton's shot from the point 28 seconds into the game. With Boston skating with a 5-on-3 advantage, Slegr then scored twice in a 35-second span to make it 3-0. The first came from near the blue line and beat goalie Sebastein Caron to the top left corner. Slegr's next shot was almost identical, but came from the right point and again slipped inside the upper left corner.
"We were out of sync for whatever reason," Pittsburgh coach Eddie Olczyk said. "They got that goal right off the bat."

Recchi's power-play goal cut it to 3-1 late in the opening period, but the Bruins broke it open in the second.
Thornton scored into an empty net when the puck caromed out front after Caron was attempting to make a play behind the net, making 4-1 at 7:29 of the second.
Thornton had a power-play goal 7:31 into the third period.

^Notes@ - Pittsburgh's Mario Lemieux was given an unsportsmanlike conduct minor after being called for interference in the first period. ... Caron was pulled after Bergeron's goal. ... Boston defenseman Jay Leach, recalled from Providence of the AHL earlier in the day, played his first NHL game.
HAHAHA
Mario Lemeeeee-euex (Lemule? Lamia? Leridicule!!!) showed off his TRUE COLORS... and they are most certainly NOT "beautiful"...
But those in the know already knew that!

Drew Carey of course has his opinion of Cleveland - I do mine - and the original *positive* attitude towards Cleveland came from one... Ian Hunter!
As music critic Mark Murrmann remarked (Mark's remarks? Hmm...nah - that's THE OTHER GUY...) Grunge-Pop icons THE PRESIDENTS OF THE UNITED STATES (the band that... committed the theme song for the Drey Carey Show) merely recorded a cover...
"Besides the Presidents' numerous platinum-selling singles, the Seattle band is best known for its cover of Ian Hunter's "Cleveland Rocks," which is used as the theme song for the Drew Carey Show. Expect more of the same ultra-catchy, self-effacing, slightly goofy songwriting in their albums: the guitars buzz with pure Seattle howl before breaking into a jangly pop jag. It's bouncy, simple and fun, but definitely not dumb."
Of the Presidents' goofy songs and silly videos, I like "Peaches" best... ;)

Ok, if you folks don't remember it, the VIDEO for "Peaches" is simply... hilarious!
The Presidents sing a sonata to peaches in TWO PARTS... after praising the merits of that nutritious and tasty fruit, they start sensing danger... and indeed there is! They are soon enough attacked by NINJAS! The fact that the song never makes any mention of ninjas (a mere "look out" is a part of the lyrics - but amidst the chorus line "millions of peaches - peaches for me" or "peaches for free" (ha - hardly) - truly no indication that martial arts are a part of the process of getting peaches into a can... hmm?) and the unexpected action that ensues makes for a very comical video - one that has my vote for funniest video clip of all time! (Yes - even funnier than Eminem's accidentally funny epic video clips!) ;)
