Visualizations of The Father... And The Son... perfect compliments to the Tuesday post, verily... better late than never!

Comments:
Fascinating that I call myself -sometimes - a Living Paradox... and the Vatican too is full of contradictions!

Consider the fact that the Sistine Chapel has one Sybille de Cummes on its stupendously decorated famous ceiling... Michelangelo felt the need to include a Sibyl there... one wonders... WHY?

If you do not know what a sibyl is... read on...

"Sybille de Cummes
ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City
Sibyls were female seers of ancient Greece and Rome. They were also known as oracles. Like the Jewish prophets of the Old Testament, many sibyls had their sayings recorded in books. Jewish prophets spoke unbidden, whereas sibyls tended to speak only if consulted on specific questions. They sometimes answered in riddles or rhetorical questions."

Old Testament prophets - ok.
But Greco-Roman Sibyls...?!?
Thank Heavens the desire to paint Harpies and Banshees did not strike Michelangelo... *LOL*

Pope Julius II wouldn't have liked that one...

There would have been more agony than ecstasy then... *lol*

Michelangelo painted the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel from 1508 to 1512, commissioned by Pope Julius II. On becoming pope in 1503, Julius II reasserted papal authority over the Roman barons and successfully backed the restauration of the Medici in Florence. He was a liberal patron of the arts, commissioning Bramante to build St Peter's Church, Michelangelo to paint the Sistine Chapel, and Raphael to decorate the Vatican apartments.

Hmm... and what did Gabriel get to do then?

*LOL*

That one wasn't Michelangelo's work though... *lol* but I like it so much too, that I had to put it in there - right on center stage too!

Mea Culpa!

;)

Those paintings are beautiful!!
I love the one in the middle too! hehehe Of course you know that since I have it on the top of my Blog! :D

That information about the Sistine Chapel and what Michelangelo painted there!!

I had never heard of sibyls until now. I have heard of oracles, but thought them more like witches that say they can tell your future.

Yes it is good that Michelangelo didn't want to paint Harpies and Banshees when he painted the Sistine Chapel. *LOL*

This part of your last comment reminds me of something.

"He was a liberal patron of the arts, commissioning Bramante to build St Peter's Church, Michelangelo to paint the Sistine Chapel, and Raphael to decorate the Vatican apartments."

Where are Leonardo & Donatello with the pizza? hehehe

Ok that was a silly reference to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. lol I love pizza too!

Was there a Donatello who was a painter too? I just realized that at least 3 of the Turtles were famous artists! Was there a Donatello too?

Thanks for the link to the Web museum art.

God Bless You (\ô/) Luce!

Indubitably, there was a Donatello who was not a giant-sized adolescent amphibious assassin... (ninjas are assassins; right? Amphibians are not - I like amphibians! :) But I digress...!

Donatello was a SCULPTOR though... from the Middle-Ages! (1386-1466, to be precise...).

The creators ot TMNT proved (if only to themselves) that they were serious art students (once) by naming all of their turtles after great classical artists...

Huge kudos for that!

Me - when I saw Michelangelo and Raphael, I thought upward - not backward in time! I thought to Heaven's most famous trio of Angels - Gabriel being my favorite! The three of them are flanked by a fourth angel, much lesser-known... Uriel.
And these four are a part of the group of nine powerful angels known as... THE ANGELS AT THE WORLD'S END!

The 9 are NOT to be found... here!

The Bible Has them though! :)

Blessings!
