Mary and John...?
Conflicting reports - according to *Twisted History* Mary, Queen of Scots would have been (unfairly) executed on this date... the same day John Lennon was shot and killed by a madman. Most regular ("non-twisted"?) historian sources cite the 8th of FEBRUARY as the date of the beheading of the fair Queen... not the 8th of December. Of course, history is not exactly an "exact science" ("hard" so-called exact sciences have it wrong all the time themselves - so what is it going to be with a "soft science" that is at the mercy of documentation left behind... and is prone to be reshaped and rewritten by the interpretations of revisionistic historians?)
Mary Queen of Scots simply has got to be a candidate for sainthood!
John Lennon? Maybe... simply because he was the victim of murder. He was not a role-model though... his lifestyle needed some ironing... but he did have a beautiful message of peace to deliver. Although I am glad he did not get to play the part of Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar... as it was proposed to him before anyone thought of Ted Neeley for the role.
It is the 25th anniversary of John Lennon's death... it is worthy of remembrance indeed. But it is not to coincide with any remembrance of the rightful queen of Scotland, England and France...

I expect some protests here...
But hey - John Lennon was an icon to millions...
Me - I think all "idols" are flawed and not worthy of the adulation...
Even my own "favorites" I have recognized as such - as flawed...
Mary Stuart was something else though...
"During the whole process of her trial and execution, Mary acted with magnificent courage worthy of her noble character and queenly rank. There can be no question that she died with the charity and magnanimity of a martyr; as also that her execution was due, on the part of her enemies, to hatred of the Faith. Pope Benedict XIV gives it as his opinion that on these two heads no requisite seems wanting for a formal declaration of martyrdom, if only the charges connected with the names of Darnley and Bothwell could be entirely eliminated ("Opera omnia", Prato, 1840, III, c.xiii, s. 10)."
Compare this to anyone who simply got shot and died... even Gandhi himself... and there's just no comparison to be made!
Even there, there are "flaws" - the "charges connected to the names of Darnley and Bothwell" are that of infidelity to both her lawfully-wedded husband as to the crown of England... and her majesty who wore it (even though Mary Stuart had legitimate claims to wear it as well - she needed it not; she had two of her own already - Scotland and France! So, Elizabeth the 1st had no reason to fear for her little crown there... But I digress...)
The point is...
NO ONE is perfect.
Perfection is simply not of this world...

To tell the truth...
I miss George Harrison much more than I miss John Lennon!
George did not bare his a$$ for tasteless pics... at least...
And this despite the fact that, as those who know me will attest, I do NOT like Georges... usually!
To every rule there's an exception though!
;)
