Statistics Sundays - Special Edition "en 1990"
In the year of Our Lord, 1990...
Funny that I saw the local redheaded songstress sing this song from her childhood (and mine) "EN 1990" (in 1990...) on a TV show no one (outside of its target area) will ever hear of ("Belle et Bum") which featured, in considerably less importance, my own cousin, the family's own talented songstress... She couldn't possibly have gotten the spotlight for a longer, more satisfying amount of time on that evening, not with the redhead present there... but that is another story.
"EN 1990" is a little farce that has taken momentous proportions for the aforementioned redhead (laughable reasons really that reek of a worry-free existence and the trivial reminiscence of fun times gone by...) and, mostly, very grave proportions for ME and my dearest ones...
"EN 1990" was written and performed by one BUM all right - a loveable bum by the name of JEAN LELOUP. (Leloup = literally, "the wolf". Jean is also French for John; don't confuse the guy for... Jean Simmons or Jean... whatshername, from CNN! Ah yes - could it be... Wolfe?)
Here are the original, uncut lyrics:
(use Babel Fish to transcribe, if you will...)
1990
Paroles: Jean Leloup.
Musique: DiSalvio, Cochard, Desrosiers, Lalonde
4,70 € (must be what it's worth nowadays... Leloup was a mere Jacques Brel wannabe after all, back then - he retired from the spotlight for a while and then made a comeback, dropping the wolfish pseudonym...)
THE WORDS:
Seront en bonne santé je crois (biting sarcasm - I like! :)
Je vais larguer mes bombes attention (should read: "à tension")
En 1990 j'ai mis ma participation
En 1990 j'étais dans la coalition
En 1990 {2x}
Hier soir dj a sauvé mon âme avec cette chanson {2x}
Aside from the ridiculous assertion that a DJ may have saved his SOUL with this absurd tune, the beat of the song is catchy and its overall rebellious attitude sure knew how to garner the attention of most everyone...
It caught mine and I remember that it mainly ANNOYED ME...
Enough to make me commit a PARODY OF IT - which I kept in my files and searched for recently and have now retranscribed a portion of it, here, for your enjoyment...
(Again; Babel Fish!)
Ah, là là, non mais quel supplice
pêcher la merluche ou l'écrevisse
dans les eaux moribondes du St-Laurent
c'est impossible maintenant!
(BOO-HOO-HOO... HOO-HOO-HOO-HOO... SHOOT!)
En 1990
ce fût vraiment le pire supplice
les Canadiens s'sont faits plantés
et les Expos - c'est terminé!
(Hoo... hoo-hoo... hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo... HOO!)
(Boo-hoo-hoo... hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo... WHO?)
Assis par terre dans l'restaurant
j'en étais à ces réflexions
quand tout à coup je me rends compte
où je me trouve - je suis dément!!!
(Boo-hoo-hoo... hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo... TRUE!)
couvert d'injures - diffamations!
(3 FOIS -
oui monsieur!)
You will admit that it has more... ah... bite to it... eh? ;)
The tragic aspects of it all are surely not that this parody is not "a true-blue parody" - that it was made only for fun and ridicule, and not for profit... that it was only one of a bunch of Leloup songs that I parodied in much the same way... or that it was never really shown to anyone THAT MATTERED (in the music industry)...
No, the tragic aspect of it all is that, as the redheaded songstress reminisced about it AND about 1990 - even going as far as to sing some parts of it that were "acceptable" for her to sing - I was reminiscing about that lousy year too; not only realizing that it had been a pivotal year after all but also one that I had overlooked for the longest time and had never pinpointed as the "important year" that it had truly been, clearly...
Indeed, had things been done differently back then, so many deplorable events would have not ensued in the years 1991, 1992, 1993 onwards...
1990 was, statiscally, a very bad year for a lot of people too (see this link for all the gruesome details and numbers...!)
We reap what we sow, so they say...
I am reaping NOW what was sowed, by accident, EN 1990...

And I still don't feel like divulging the names of the redhead... the cousin...
MUCH LESS adding the videoclip of this song to the post here!
(And Lord Knows YouTube and Blogger are willing to do so - more than ever before!)
Most nights, the DJs annoy the heck out of me - with this song!!!
So...

I always wondered why Jean Leloup came up with: "Hier soir dj a sauvé mon âme avec cette chanson" in his famous song.
The answer: (Indeep 1982) "
Last Night a DJ Saved My Life"
Listen carefully to the guitar riff in both songs...

Ah, subsonsciously at least I think we ALL knew the answer to that one...
Everybody remembers "last night a DJ saved my life (with this song)" - and the melodious ladylike voice that sang those words...!
I still question the likelihood that Jean 'Leloup' Leclerc's soul would have been saved with his "En 1990" though... *lol*
It remains a classic in its own right, of course.
No questions about what I allude to, in re: 1990 and the "grave proportions" it took for me and my loved ones...?
No questions about who my songstress cousin is?
Ah - maybe you know her...! ;)
Anyhow - thanks for dropping by, Dominic!
It gave me a chance to update the post - something I like to do, oftentimes...
Send my regards to Daniel...!
